Secure Link State Routing Protocol: A Framework for Network Survivability
نویسندگان
چکیده
Network survivability has been studied extensively from the view of node and link failures. The domain of survivability goes beyond just the physical failures and one needs to address this issue when faced with security threats that can render the network logically dysfunctional without causing any physical damage. There are several security threats a network routing protocol such as the linkstate protocol may face. In this paper, we argue that this leaves network routing and, in turn, network susceptible to a number of attacks. We discuss these attacks and present a new secure routing framework based on security techniques (authentication and confidentiality) for a link state routing protocol. The central idea of the new framework is to divide a routing domain into multiple virtual routing domains and creating a hierarchical trust among them to address the survivability issue of the network. We illustrate that imbedding this framework to an existing protocol can be done without major modifications to the existing protocol, and without affecting its operational features. Our assessment shows that the framework is capable of preventing many currently unchecked security threats without unduly overloading routing elements in routers. Our framework also provides survivable capability for the subset of functional network routers in the event of formidable attacks like the insider attack.

Trust Analysis of Link State Network Routing
Network routing security has received more attention recently. But there are no good design guidelines on how to construct secure network routing domains. There are also no proper evaluation methods to validate the many proposed secure routing frameworks. We analyze network routing security issues via a new approach: trust relations among network routers. Based on the presented trust models for...

In mobile ad hoc networks, the absence ofinfrastructure and the consequent absence of authorizationfacilities impede the usual practice of establishing a practicalcriterion to distinguishing nodes as trusted and distrusted.Since all nodes in the MANETs would be used as router inmulti-hop applications, secure routing protocols have vital rulein the security of the network. So evaluating the perf...

The secure operation of the routing protocol is one of the major challenges to be met for the proliferation of the Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) paradigm. Nevertheless, security enhancements have been proposed mostly for reactive MANET protocols. The proposed here Secure Link State Routing Protocol (SLSP) provides secure proactive topology discovery, which can be multiply beneficial to the n...

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks can enhance road safety and enable drivers to avoid different threats. Safety applications, mobile commerce, and other information services are among different available services that are affected by dynamic topology, vehicle’s speed and node misbehaving. Dynamic topology makes the route unstable and unreliable. So, improving the throughput and performance of VANET thr...
متن کاملSurvivability and Reliability Analysis of the Trusted Link State Routing Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The nodes in a wireless network are responsible for both sending their traffic as well as relaying the traffic of other nodes in the network. This form of collaboration between the nodes is essential for the proper delivery of data. Without fair participation of all nodes in the routing process, some nodes may lose their energy reserves at a high rate compared to other nodes in the network. How...
